On the north bank of the South Nahanni River is “Moore’s” or “honeymoon” Hot Spring. Rafters and paddlers alike frequent the springs and lodge. The Springs’ source is roughly a hundred meters from the river, accessible by a little side stream that emerges from a big pond.

The water is warm and has a considerable amount of minerals. The temperature is roughly 55 degrees Celsius. The shallow Springs provide a fantastic break for passing travelers since the water mixes with the river and is exactly the ideal temperature for soaking. In the spring and summer, the area can be rather swarming with insects.

The Springs are named after Joanne and John Moore, who spent their year-long Honeymoon in a cottage about a kilometer upstream, which is still there today, thus the alternative spring name of Honeymoon. Their travels in the area are described in Joann Morris’ book Nahanni trailhead: a year in the northern wilderness.

Recent Park Management Updates

Parks Canada states that overnight trips require trip reservation, registration, and deregistration for Nahanni and Nááts’įhch’oh, mainly to help manage congestion and improve trip safety. Parks Canada

Parks Canada also notes that trip details are recorded in logbooks at specific locations (including Moore’s Cabin), and reminds visitors that rescue capacity is limited in remote backcountry—one reason registration and check-out procedures matter. Parks Canada
